Complex Regional Pain Syndrome

Karl recently attended a course on this difficult and poorly understood condition. Complex Regional Pain Syndrome also known as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, is a chronic neurological syndrome. Symptoms (varying) include: *severe burning pain *pathological changes *excessive sweating *tissue swelling *extreme sensitivity to touch It is a painful and progressive neurological condition that can affect the skin, muscles, joints and bones. The syndrome usually develops in an injured limb such as a broken leg or following surgery, & may begin in one area or limb and then spread to other limbs. However many cases of CRPS/RSD involve only a minor injury such as a sprain, ie RSI, and in some cases, no precipitating event can be identified. Karl now has the most up to date knowledge amongst the Scorpio therapists regarding this condition. He warns that treatment options still appear limited, & outcomes equally variable.
